When our photographer friend reached out to us to capture her family's indoor newborn lifestyle session in the San Jose Bay Area, we were so excited!

She took such great care and thoughtfulness in getting her home ready. As a lifestyle newborn photographer herself, she knew the best places of natural light and chose THE BEST color scheme for her family's outfits. (When in doubt, cream and neutral tones are the way to go!)

For our lifestyle newborn sessions, we focus on the family's story and their interactions with one another.

This Lifestyle Newborn Session was so much fun because these parents embraced the little moments! From the popsicles for big sister (hey, we’re all for the incentives to get those big smiles!) to dad playing the guitar–every moment of this newborn session was so sweet and memorable!

Here are some helpful tips for planning your Indoor Newborn Lifestyle Family Session:

1) Pick a time when your home gets the most natural light. If it's pretty dark inside with no natural light available, renting a studio for your newborn session would be a better option.

2) Clear some space near the biggest window in your home. It's the best area and with great, flattering light.

3) Mamas, make sure your nails are clean, put on a light matte lip color, and go for soft, curly waves in your hair for that natural look.

4) Wear neutral-colored clothes to keep the focus on you and your family, giving the photos a light, airy, and timeless feel.

5) Have a backup outfit ready for the baby just in case of any mishaps.

6) Feed your baby before the shoot so they're nice and sleepy when it's time for the session.

7) And finally, take a deep breath. Kids pick up on stress, so try to relax! We don't expect perfect smiles in every shot; the best photos capture their real smiles during play and interactions.
