We’ve been wanting to photograph a mommy and me paint session for a while now and when we reached out to our photographer friend (Emily Cohen Photography) to see if she’d be game to collaborate for a mommy and me creative session in the San Jose Bay Area, we were so excited when she said YES!

The plan started out with an email:

"...if you're open to brain-storming a mommy and me maternity session, we can chat about that soon! We have a few fun ideas in mind (i.e. ice cream, paint session)"

We then began to hash out the details and had three ideas in mind:

IDEA 1: Outdoor Paint Session

IDEA 2: Cooking Baking at Home

IDEA 3: Playtime at Home

Of course we were hoping for the paint session idea, but we were game for whatever we ended up doing. She replied back with, "okay I love, love, LOVE the paint and overalls (photographer me is swooning haha). We are so down for this."

We were super excited to lock in the date and spot! But as the photoshoot got closer, the weather forecast—OF COURSE—said it was going to rain. We scrambled to sort out a backup date, but it turned out we didn’t need it because we had FULL SUNSHINE all day! (Only in the Bay Area, haha!) We feel like we've become pros at predicting Bay Area weather for photoshoots—whenever it says rain, it ends up being sunny or just a bit cloudy during our shoot!

This session was a total blast, and we all had such a good time—it just kept getting better! When they started painting on the sheet, the colors added a fun, magical feel to each picture. Little girl was a bit shy about getting messy with the paint at first, but once her mom started painting her feet, she couldn't stop giggling! She was super excited about the colorful sprinkle cookies, which made us all smile!

These photos came out super cute because mom didn't mind getting messy and just had a blast! The best photo sessions are all about making memories by playing and having fun with your kids!
