HOW TO PREPARE YOUR KIDS FOR A PHOTOSHOOT

We understand it can be a major feat to head out the door and just get to the grocery store. Add to that - making sure everyone is dressed and looking spic and span for pictures and it's just a miracle to make it to the photoshoot on time! But what about DURING the shoot? Here are some tips to be prepared!

TIME:

Be sure the time chosen doesn't conflict with your kids' schedule, such as meal times and nap times. We had a photoshoot where a little guy was asleep in the car and had to be woken up for a session. How dare we wake him from his slumber! A nap cut short led to a fierce scowl and grumpy frown. Be sure your child is well-rested in order to have the best smile from them.

FOOD:

If your photoshoot is planned around mealtimes, be sure to give your kids a snack beforehand - that way they are satisfied until you can actually feed them a meal. Also, it's a great incentive to have a special treat after they're done with the photoshoot, such as ice cream or their favorite meal.

SNACKS + GOODIES:

One thing we've seen over time: kids respond to things they are excited about! If they don't want their photos taken it's going to take some persuading to get them excited! Bring a snack or juice pack to tide them over in between shots (we noticed this worked in one of our sessions; the parents had brought little snacks for their kids and after taking about five photos they would reward them with a portion, super smart idea!).

PROPS + TOYS:

Sometimes we just want to laugh. And if we can get that laugh from your kids by playing with their favorite stuffed animal or pretending to be a superhero we will do it for that smile! If your child has a special toy, ball or action figure that makes them smile, bring it!

CLOTHING:

Be sure to dress your kids appropriately. If there's high grass, chances are they won't like the prickly sticks or tickles on their toes when wearing sandals. If they want to explore, most likely they will get grass stains and smudges from dirt. During our photoshoots we like to let the children explore the environment and have fun, which sets the tone for some awesome photos!

SHARE WITH US WHAT YOUR CHILDREN LIKE:

We love to make kids laugh. We love entertaining. Being in the children's industry for 15+ years of teaching, babysitting, and nannying, we have an idea how to work with kids. Let us know what they like and we can utilize that to capture their attention. No need to be embarrassed by your child being wiggly during the photoshoot - they are kids! We understand they can't sit still for very long. If they need a break - give them one!

AND LAST BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST...YOUR PEACE OF MIND:

It's easy to focus on the kids, the clothes and the location. And out of all that - you may get overlooked. Be sure to take a moment to breathe, collect yourself, get yourself prepared and dressed, and take a bite to eat. Children are very observant, and when they see you're overwhelmed and stressed out, they'll pick up on it and become stressed as well. Peaceful parent, peaceful child.

If you follow these helpful tips we guarantee you will have the best family photo session experience and be happy with the photos you receive!
